The Fern Centre is North Devon’s cancer and wellbeing centre at North Devon District Hospital.
The centre was funded by the people of North Devon, for the people of North Devon. It opened in 2020 following a £1.5m fundraising appeal and offers information and support to anyone affected by cancer.
It’s a safe space for patients, loved ones and carers to access a wealth of free counselling, complementary therapies, hair loss and bra fitting support, and much more.
The Fern Centre also has three en-suite accommodation rooms available to relatives of patients being cared for throughout the hospital. For more details about our accommodation and criteria for booking, please see our Accommodation page.
Outside, a garden is being created to provide patients with a quiet space to relax, as well as communal area to socialise with others. It will have a sensory garden, raised beds and a potting shed for patients and their families to enjoy.
The centre continues to be funded by Royal Devon Hospitals Charity (formerly known as Over and Above). As well as fundraising donations, profits from the charity’s two charity shops in Barnstaple and Westward Ho! help to fund the centre’s £150,000 annual running costs.
