Wig Service at the Fern Centre
Our wig service at the Fern Centre is provided by highly trained and experienced stylists from Natural Image Wigs based at John Lewis. A wide range of wig styles and colours are available for you to choose from and your stylist will be able to help find the right wig for you.
What to expect at your appointment
Your appointment will last approximately an hour and is held at the Fern Centre. The appointments are held in a private room where you will have the opportunity to try on a variety of wigs, with your stylist offering guidance and advice to find the perfect one for you. Once you have selected your wig, the trained stylist will cut and style the wig so you will be able to leave the centre with your new look.
How much does the wig service costs
An NHS prescription fee of £78.15 will need to be paid if you choose to buy a wig at your appointment. This fee may vary and is reviewed each April. A FW1 form is completed by each patient which details the prescription charges and ways to pay. This form also details 9 possible exemptions to the prescription charge for patients on a low income who might otherwise think they cannot afford a wig. The NHS then tops up your fee, allowing you to spend up to £120 on a wig at no extra costs to you. However, if you would like to choose a wig that is more than £120, you will be asked to pay the difference at your styling appointment. Your wig will be cut and styled free of charge.
How to access the wig service
